It was Elaine's last night, we drank champagne and ate cheese, ham, dates, olives and quince paste late into the night at Molly's apartment. Molly had 1st edition Trivial Pursuit cards (1981) which were really difficult, especially the entertainment ones. It was all stuff that you would barely be able to remember in 1981, and would be totally gone by 2008. Like,"What TV series featured Neal, the martini-drinking St. Bernard." We played until we got all six questions on a single card right. We played till 3am.

Elaine is a remarkable woman. She's from Arkansas, and most people think she's crazy or on drugs when they meet her, because she moves at dizzying speeds, makes a lot of strange sound affects to accompany her movements, says a lot of inscrutable things. She's a lady who likes other ladies. She has pictures from her teenage years in Little Rock when she was dressed like Boy George - the makeup, the funny strands of hair, the headband/hat combo, everything.

Have I mention that before? Well it's worth considering again - a lesbian Boy George impersonator. How does that happen? What does it mean?

It means I will miss having her in my daily world, because there aren't many people who so totally defy expectation.
