{Hermex}

My refrigerator is crammed with produce from Monterrey Market, Berkeley Bowl and the Oliveto walk-in. I wish I could say I bought every cruciferous vegetable I could find, but that would be almost all of them -- Which is the topic of my middle school class tomorrow. I am taking the kids on a wonder-packed tour of the brassica family of vegetables, and then making cole-slaw. A little history, a little folk-lore, some socio-cultural background to cabbage and it's kin cauliflower, broccoli, kale, mustard, brussels sprouts, turnips, bok choi, choi sum, kohl rabi, rapini, watercress, wasabi, horse-radish, and many many more. All basically the same plant, coaxed into a thousand shapes, sized, flavors, and colors.
And then I/we make cole slaw.
I'm terrified. I've put this off for like a year, and tomorrow its class time. I'm about to go... back to middle school.
