My food diary came to a screetching halt, as I haven't eaten in two days. After a few days of mid-level GI distress, my body declared all-out war and purged itself of everything, including most of my water. I panicked a bit when I couldn't drink water without throwing it all back up ten minutes later. Then came fever, presumably to cook whatever hadn't been flushed out. I am still feverish and wobbly, but much better than yesterday. Imagine feeling sicker than you ever have felt, and then going on a 7 hour car ride on a jam-packed Indian highway. Forget imagining myself in prison, I imagine myself in Hell. One plus about the filth lining the streets is that I felt no compunction to barf out the car window. It was all tea anyhow.
I am back in Delhi in the pricey hotel, (not luxurious by any means). I watched Jaimie Oliver make cheese steaks on the TV and despite my woes, I can think of no place I'd rather be than the University Ave Cheese Steak shop, eating sandwhich and reading paper. You can come too. Although I don't eat much meat in general, I have been 100% pure vegetarian since I got here. No meat, no alcohol. I am gearing up for a major retox when I get home. I can't keep down a cup of tea, but put 10 inches of steak and cheese and chilies and onions before me and I will find a way to make it mine.
